From Nagarkot you will enjoy early sunrise view and mesmerizing Himalayan mountain range. The village of Nagarkot is perched on the edge of the Kathmandu valley and offers superb view of the mountains. At the end of the trek you will visit the temple at Changunarayan which offers you to observe religious practice of Nepalese people.

Kathmandu valley is surrounded by tier of green hills at an elevation from 1350 meters to 2800 meters above sea level. In spring this  area is alive with blooming rhododendrons, magnolias, and many wild, bushy, colorful flowers.

This Hiking trail around Kathmandu is the off the beaten trail which offers a rich insight into the lives, history, culture and religion together with the daily farming activities of  the  inhabitants. Kathmandu short trek begins at  Sundarijal, the North East entry point from Kathmandu. From this trailhead we follow the Shivapuri national park , walk over hundreds of stone steps up to villages and bamboo groves ultimately reaching Chisapani. From here we can observe sunrise view and several Himalayan mountain range - Manaslu, Boudha himal, Ganesh himal ,Langtang range, Dorje lakpa, Shisapangma and Gaurishankar. All trekking trails around Kathmandu are naturally and culturally popular places . Then, you head to Nagarkot. The walk from one village to another village passing through terraced rice-fields and woody areas, observing diverse flora and fauna along the forest trails gives you the life time experience.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Kathmandu to Chisapani(2140m).

Drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal by privat car. Start your trek by taking a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal, which takes around 1-2 hours, depending on traffic.

Trek from Sundarijal to Chisapani: Begin your trek from Sundarijal. The trail ascends gradually through Shivapuri National Park, passing through lush forests and small settlements. It's a moderate trek that takes about 5-6 hours to reach Chisapani.

Overnight in Chisapani: Once you reach Chisapani, you'll be rewarded with panoramic views of the Himalayas, including Langtang, Ganesh Himal and Dorje Lakpa ranges. Stay overnight at a guesthouse in Chisapani.

Day 2 : Trek Chisopani to Nagarkot (2170m)

Trek from Chisapani to Nagarkot: After breakfast, start your trek towards Nagarkot. The trail offers beautiful views of the surrounding hills and valleys. You'll pass through charming villages and terraced fields along the way. The trek from Chisapani to Nagarkot usually takes around 6-7 hours.

Arrive in Nagarkot: Nagarkot is renowned for its sunrise and sunset views over the Himalayas, including Mount Everest on a clear day. Explore the area and enjoy the stunning vistas.

Overnight in Nagarkot: Spend the night in Nagarkot.

Day 3 : Trek Nagarkot to Changunarayan and Return to Kathmandu

Trek from Nagarkot to Changunarayan: Wake up early to catch the sunrise over the Himalayas from Nagarkot. After breakfast, trek downhill from Nagarkot to Changunarayan. The trail passes through picturesque villages, terraced fields, and forests, offering glimpses of rural life in Nepal. The trek takes around 3-4 hours.

Visit Changunarayan Temple: Explore Changunarayan Temple, one of the oldest Hindu temples in the Kathmandu Valley, known for its exquisite wood carvings and ancient architecture.

Drive back to Kathmandu: After visiting Changunarayan, drive back to Kathmandu, which takes about 1-2 hours.

End of Trek: Your Kathmandu Valley Rim trek concludes upon your return to Kathmandu.
